A few years ago, a new restaurant opened in Bozeman. It featured a menu full of locally sourced, homemade goodness that rotated daily based on what was available and had a catchy name. While the concept wasn’t new, there was, and is, something truly unique about Fork & Spoon: patrons are welcome to pay what they can. And yes, the business model is working.
Fork & Spoon is located at 302 N 7th Avenue, where it recently enjoyed a minor remodel.
Fork & Spoon / Facebook This is a dinner-only restaurant, serving Sunday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Inside, the space is warm and welcoming, just like the team.
Fork & Spoon / Facebook Every guest is greeted as if they’re family and treated well.
The restaurant is run by Head Chef Leah Smutko, General Manager Rick Hilles, and Events Coordinator Jacqui Colt.
Fork & Spoon / Facebook This is Montana’s first and only social enterprise restaurant, meaning the profit supports the common good.
Here’s how it works: guests come for dinner, where they’re given a menu that has suggested prices on it.
Fork & Spoon / Facebook The menu typically consists of a small dinner menu for adults and a healthy children’s menu.
Some guests pay the suggested meal price, while others who can’t afford it can pay what they can, if anything.
Chelsea E / TripAdvisor On the flip side, guests who are able to pay more often do to cover the cost of someone else’s meal. The pay-it-forward concept works well here. There’s even a Pick-Up-The-Tab option on the website where local businesses or families donate to cover the cost of an entire night’s worth (or week’s worth) of meals.
The tasty entrees are made from scratch using locally sourced food, both from markets and some donations from the local food bank.
Fork & Spoon / Facebook The food is absolutely delicious, and guests from all income brackets come to enjoy it.
Due to current conditions, Fork & Spoon is only open for takeout – but they are still open.
Fork & Spoon / Facebook A limited dinner menu is published on its website daily, and the price is still only suggested. The team at Fork & Spoon want to ensure everyone gets a healthy meal when they need one.
Fork & Spoon does amazing things for the Bozeman community. If you’re able, help them out by picking up the tab or ordering some tasty takeout.
