In some parts of the state, spring is certainly already here, while in others, snow is still falling every few weeks. While we hope that we’ve seen the last of winter, you never can be too sure. And that means we need to get outside as much as we can when we can! A great way to stretch those winter hiking legs is by checking out this fairly simple route that makes its way along the Presumscot River. It’s a beauty!
Breathe in the fresh air of the outdoors by heading to Oak Nuts Park near Portland for this 4-mile hike.

The Oat Nuts Park Trail makes its way through the woods, with a mix of dirt and gravel routes.

The trail is entirely located within the Presumpscot River Preserve, which can be found on both sides of the river.

Despite the fact that the 60-acre preserve is close to the busy towns of both Portland and Falmouth, this area is quiet. And you’ll have plenty of opportunities to clear your head here.

As you get closer to the water you’ll find wet areas. Each of these is bypassed by boardwalk, making this trail a bit unique and extra-special for kids who love stomping and clomping their way along.
