If ever you’ve lived in Florida then you already know that driving can be an absolute mess. Don’t even get us started on traffic time in Florida because that is just pure pandemonium. According to a study conducted by SmartAsset, Florida has been ranked as one of the worst places to drive in the country — which totally makes sense if you’ve spent time there. SmartAsset compiles a list every year of the states with the best and worst drivers. For 2019, they found that Florida has some of the worst drivers in the entire country. This is how they determined it…

In order to find the states with the worst drivers in America, SmartAsset took four different metrics into account.

First, they took the percentage of drivers who are insured, then the number of driving under the influence (DUI) arrests per 1,000 drivers, next, the number of fatalities per 100,000 vehicle miles driven, as well as how often traffic tickets or speeding tickets are given.

Based on these metrics, a final list of the worst states for driving is produced and in 2019, Florida placed in a tie for fourth.

In fact, there is a three-way tie for fourth place between Nevada and Texas, but with Florida, the findings were quite interesting.

For starters, in 2019, only 73 percent of drivers were insured, which happened to be the lowest rate in the nation.

But the good news is that the DUI rate in Florida was quite low, in fact, it was the eighth lowest in the country.

With all this said and done, however, one of the key findings in the entire study was that the South dominates the list of worst drivers, with Mississippi and Alabama coming in first and second respectively.

But this does mean bad news for Florida in comparison to 2018, where it held the eighth spot for worst drivers in America.

So, what do you think? Do you think that Florida has the worst drivers? Should Florida be ranked higher or lower on the list? Sound off in the comments section! Also, you can see where Florida landed on the list in recent years by checking out SmartAsset’s 2018 edition of the study.
