Located in Pierre, the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center (or the Museum of the South Dakota State Historical Society) is THE place to go to learn about the Mount Rushmore State’s intriguing history.

Open year-round, the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center is on a mission to “promote an understanding and appreciation of South Dakota’s rich heritage and complex history” via an extensive collection of exhibits, programs, and special events.

When you visit, be sure to check out the Cultural Heritage Center’s main-stay permanent exhibits, which include such themes as the South Dakota Experience, South Dakota in the 20th Century, and Oyate Tawicoh’an [O-ya-ta Ta-wi-cho-han] (or The Ways of the People).

In addition to these permanent fixtures, the Center also hosts numerous traveling exhibits and temporary collections, so be sure to visit often!

Admission to the Center is $4 for adults and $3 for seniors (60+), with free admission for ages 17 and under.
