If you drive through America it might seem like big box stores and chain restaurants are everywhere. And they are! That’s why we love making sure to visit the smaller spots. The ones that only exist because families have put blood, sweat, and tears into making sure they not only survive, but thrive. This family-owned spot in Maine is one of our favorite examples.

You’ll find Uncle Moe’s Diner in the little community of Sabattus. Started with love more than 40 years ago by Maurice and Lorraine Dion, this place has been an important part of life here. We recently learned that Lorraine passed away and felt we should give a little extra love to Uncle Moe’s!

Today it’s owned and operated by Don Dion and his wife who told the business over about 20 years ago.

Improvements have been made to modernize the inside, but mostly it has the same homey feel as it did back in the 1970s.

And in addition to dining in what feels like a family home, we love Moe’s for their giant portions! Especially when it comes to breakfast.

In addition to large portions of great food, we love how inventive the food is. How about trying this major improvement on the traditional crepe? This one has sausage, egg and cheddar cheese!

And, of course, their traditional breakfasts are great too.

If you’re more of a lunch and dinner person, you’ll love their always-changing specials. But, a ton of folks visit for the famous lunchtime Uncle Moe’s Burger Builder!
