The museum aims to connect the past to the future, with a strong focus on the employment and life of the soldiers at Fort Wallace. It was officially decommissioned in 1882, but still has plenty of history to share.

Starting at the prehistoric, western Kansas, seeing fossils and realizing where you stand used to be an ocean is amazing. Seeing how large some of these creatures were as the bones hang above you is another thing entirely.

Another thing you’ll likely love to explore is the miniature main street that’s been constructed inside the museum. See storefronts as they used to appear years ago, and feel like you’re part of the past.

This beautiful carriage is usually stationary, but if you’re lucky, you can see it in motion during one of their events. For the most part, it’s just shocking to see how tall it really is! No wonder people need help getting inside.
