Located in the shadows of LSU in Baton Rouge, the LSU Hilltop Arboretum is a natural oasis that’s just begging to be explored.

The arboretum was established by Emory Smith in 1929, and donated to the university in 1981.

Today, the Hilltop Arboretum features 14 acres of more than 150 species of native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers.

It’s the perfect spot to visit when you need a quiet, serene place to unwind.

Along the trail you’ll encounter bamboo, birch, crape myrtles, and many other species of trees and shrubs.

And depending on the time of year you visit, you’ll see all sorts of flowers in bloom, adding a lovely pop of color to your walk.

There are benches peppered around the walkways that are great for stopping for a moment to take in the view.

The arboretum is free and open to the public seven days a week from dawn until dusk.
