If you haven’t been following New Jersey’s Tenafly Nature Center on Facebook yet, you’re missing out. I don’t say things like that lightly but it’s true. The Tenafly Nature Center has been offering a whole host of free online nature-related activities that are perfect for families and nature lovers of all ages. If you haven’t participated yet, you can catch up on the fun by checking out their videos page. Many of the live streams are saved there to be enjoyed at any time. There’s also a lot of new content coming up to look forward to!

For those of you who aren’t familiar, Tenafly Nature Center is an incredible non-profit nature preserve. Since 1961, the nature center has been a leader in open space preservation and environmental education. Their trails are free for everyone to enjoy.

They also provide a seasonal butterfly house (for a nominal fee), visitors center, facility rentals, birthday parties, and plenty of environmental programming. While all in-person events have been canceled for the next few weeks, they’re offering loads of online fun.

On the agenda, you’ll find nature storytime, geared towards kids age 3-7.

There’s a lesson on camouflage in nature that’s designed for children in grades pre-k through 5.

We can’t wait for their backyard bird basics class, meant for those in grade 3 and up. Learn to identify the birds in your own backyard!

There will be pond watching and bird feeder exploration.

You’ll also be able to (virtually) meet animal ambassadors and enjoy a guided nature walk.

The fun keeps going until Earth Day (April 22nd) when you can stream an online celebration of…bugs. They need some love, too.

You’ll also be able to stream nature trivia, learn about staff members’ pets and more! They’re doing a ton of great stuff right now on social media (as they do all year in person) and while their programs are free and available for everyone in New Jersey (and elsewhere) to enjoy, it would be wonderful if those who are able to donate make a contribution. You can learn more about programming and donations on the Tenafly Nature Center website or go directly to their GoFundMe Page to help out!

In the comments below, I’d like you to do two things – share your pet photos AND let me know what family-friendly online activities you’re currently enjoying. Museum tours? Classes? I’d love to hear about them.
