Nothing quite compares to driving down a wide open road with the windows down and a cool breeze blowing through your hair. Do just that on Kayenta-Monument Valley Scenic Road, which boasts gorgeous views of one of the most iconic natural wonders in Arizona.

Near the border with Utah, Monument Valley Tribal Park is the incredible result of 50 million years of erosion. It features spellbinding panoramic views that showcase majestic sandstone formations that evoke a sense of peace in all who behold them.

Spanning 26 miles, this breathtaking scenic route leads from Kayenta to Monument Valley. The drive is perfect for a hot summer day or when you just don’t feel like hiking, as it features the same striking views as the iconic park.

Along the way, you’ll encounter several different, but equally spectacular, types of terrain. Dry, red soil gives way to sparse greenery, creating an array of colors guaranteed to leave you awestruck.

In the distance, unique rock formations rise up toward the clouds. Anticipation and excitement build as you draw nearer, the unmistakable enchantment impossible to ignore.

Boredom is simply not an option, as the landscape varies in such a drastic and beautiful way. You might even spot some wildlife grazing on what little grass lines the road!

Upon reaching the Tribal Nation, a $20 fee is required to keep driving. We highly recommend doing so, as you’ll get up-close-and-personal with the monolithic buttes we know and love Monument Valley for.

Pro-tip: Hit the road early to watch the sunrise. There’s a spot to pull over about 2/3 of the way down the road, offering an unparalleled vantage point to watch the sky wake up.
