Hiking is truly the best escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, as it always leaves you feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on anything. Challenger Seven Memorial Park offers a breathtaking boardwalk trail that leads through Cypress tree-filled wetlands, and by simply embarking on the hike, you’re commemorating a tragic spacecraft disaster.

Challenger Seven Memorial Park pays homage to the seven NASA astronauts who lost their lives in the tragic 1986 space shuttle explosion. An exact color reproduction of the logo designed by the crew members is located here.

Though a somber place, the park commemorates the heroic team in a beautiful way. It spans 300 acres and features remote nature trails that wind through tall grasslands, eye-popping wildflowers, and even a bird sanctuary.

Challenger Seven Park Loop, the most popular hike, is only 2.4 miles long and suitable for all fitness levels. A scenic boardwalk traverses a wetland ecosystem, lined with towering trees that almost converge overhead to form a canopy.

Spanish moss draped over Cypress tree limbs imparts an eerie, yet peaceful, vibe. Drop ever deeper into a meditative, almost transcendent state as you walk along.

Three elevated observation platforms are connected to the boardwalk, offering unmatched views of the swampy landscape. Look out over Clear Creek, a natural tributary flowing along the Harris County southern boundary and emptying into Clear Lake, which is adjacent to Galveston Bay.

Isn’t this just one of the most tranquil views you’ve ever seen? It’s even more beautiful (if that’s possible) in the wee hours of dawn or at dusk.

There’s also a man-made fishing pond open for use by the public. It’s always stocked with Large Mouth Bass and Catfish, so stick around long enough and you’re bound to get a bite or two.
