Right around the time the Civil War ended, Mary Chesley Calef emptied her savings and mortgaged their family farm to open Calef’s Store in the front room of her home.

The Calef family ran the store for five generations, until the late ‘90s. The same values that Mary impressed into the original store are present today, and that’s what makes locals and visitors near and far find this store so special.
