On your mark, get set, and…before you know it, you’ll be zipping down the slopes at Montage Mountain on your very own cardboard box sled. But, before we get to the big day – this coming Saturday – you’ve got a lot of work to do. Here’s everything you need to know about Pennsylvania’s Cardboard Box Derby.
The clock is quickly inching closer and closer to February 1, 2020, the day racers will gather on the slopes of Montage Mountain, in Scranton, to debut their cardboard box sleds.

Still, you’ve got plenty of time to get working on your artistic creation. Co-hosted by Montage Mountain and Rock 107, the epic race will feature some equally epic prizes for the winners.

However, you’ll have to follow a few rules to ensure your cardboard box sled qualifies for the race. You can only use four types of material – cardboard, glue, string, and tape.
Facebook/Montage Mountain If you want to decorate your sled, you can use other materials, such as paint or Christmas lights, as long as they aren’t “structural.”
Your sled can be as big as you want, as long as it is less than seven feet wide. Keep a letter-sized space free, too, so your race entry number can be posted on your sled.

Prizes will be awarded in several categories, including “the most people in the sled to cross the finish line,” “most creative sled,” and “best Montage Mountain or Rock 107-themed sled.”

Sled didn’t turn out quite the way you expected? Bring it anyway! The runner up – earning the title of the “epic fail sled” – will win a gift card and snow tubing vouchers for Montage Mountain.
