Waterfall trails are lovely but sometimes you need a trail to take you up and away from it all. Hike through the gorgeous Ozark National Forest and emerge at the Buffalo City Bluff Overlook. This valley view is simple stunning! Let’s lace up our hiking boots and tackle Turkey Mountain for this rewarding payoff.
After you’ve fished the White River, take your adventure up a notch (or in this case about 1,000 feet higher) by taking this wild trail.
Flickr/Billy Bob Bain Southeast of Flippin resides Buffalo City and the Buffalo City Bluff Overlook Trail. The hike follows an old horse trail up turkey mountain. Today we’ll trade the lions, tigers, and bears for horses, turkeys, and buffalo!
The first half of the trail is well forested and perfect for a steady and tranquil hike.
AllTrails/Rebecca Short This trail is rated as moderate for it’s six-mile length and 980-ft. elevation gain. It’s certainly an uphill hike but the serene forest will keep you motivated the entire way.
Although the bluff overlook is the highlight of this trail, you’ll find plenty of other natural treasures.
AllTrails/Ute Wolff Between the wildlife spotting, overhanging trees, and moss covered rock walls, there’s tons of subtle beauty along this trail! Do keep in mind the length but this hike is family and dog friendly, too.
We absolutely love the greenery of this trail but there are benefits to taking the hike in the fall and winter.
AllTrails/Herbert Vickers Turkey Mountain is perfectly nestled between the White River and the Buffalo National River. During the leaf off seasons you’ll be able to peep the Buffalo through the trees!
You may have huffed and puffed towards the end of this out-and-back hike but the city overlook is positively lovely!
