Waterfalls abound here in Arizona, but some are much easier to access than others. If you’re in search of a quick adventure with an amazing payoff, look no further than Blue Wash Trail in the Tonto National Forest. It’s short and sweet, but features awe-inspiring views and culminates in a beautiful waterfall.

At just 2.8 miles long, Blue Wash Trail is a short and sweet waterfall hike in the Tonto National Forest. Besides a few boulder scrambles, it’s a pretty easy trek suitable for kids and dogs.

The trail is primarily flat, with an elevation gain of less than 500 feet. The views are still incredible, however, with wildflowers on either side of the path during growing season and the silhouettes of distant mountains stretching up into the sky.

Signage is basically nonexistent, so you’ll want to have a map pulled up. If you do get lost for any reason, just follow the wash and bear left at the creek.

Expect a few water crossings along the way, so bring an extra pair of shoes just in case. A cap or visor would be wise, as well, due to very little shade on the trail.

Once you reach the falls, prepare to be amazed. Cascading down a series of rocks with lush vegetation all around, it’s like entering an exotic jungle oasis.

Visit in the morning if you can, as the flow tends to dry up later on in the day. Crowds are also the most sparse just after sunrise and in the evenings, as it’s an extremely popular trail.

All in all, Blue Wash Trail is a great little adventure that won’t tie up your whole day. Just watch out for snakes, Gila monsters, bees, and other wildlife, as AllTrails users frequent report sightings.
