In the age of a global pandemic and widespread safety measures, there are a lot of things that won’t look the same as they used to for a long time…if ever. That includes some of our favorite events, like neighborhood get-togethers, small-town festivals, and sporting events. Traditional concerts are out of the question for now, but there’s an alternative coming up this week that will let you enjoy live music safely.
Remember when summer concerts looked like this? Seeing your favorite bands perform live is such a fun experience. But this year, because of COVID-19 regulations, those packed-in-like-sardines seating areas will sit empty this summer.

We still deserve to have fun, though! That was the thought that grew into an idea that gave rise to the New Freedom Festival. This traveling festival is visiting drive-in theaters all around the country this summer to provide a unique, safe way to enjoy a concert. It will be at the Sandhills Drive-in on June 19, 2020.

The idea is a lot like a traditional drive-in movie theater; however, admission is charged based on how many are people in your car. You’re welcome to bring a blanket so you and your family can sit on the grass, but you’ll be required to stay with your car at all times (unless you’re headed to the bathrooms or concession stand). Strict social distancing rules will be in place to keep everyone safe. All of the cars will remain a safe distance from each other; parking attendants will be there to direct you to your spot.

Nebraska will be the first location for the New Freedom Fest. This innovative way of presenting a live show could very well be the future - at least for a while. The festival is limited to 200 cars, so be sure to buy your tickets in advance! Admission starts at $40 for a car with two people. Upgrade to a VIP ticket and you’ll get a seat in the first three rows.

You can find out more about this delightfully different concert from the New Freedom Fest website or Facebook page. More information is available from the Sandhills Drive-In as well. When you go, be sure to support this Nebraska-owned small business by buying your snacks from the concession stand instead of bringing your own.
