The town of Almo in Cassia County is tiny, but its surroundings make venturing out to this remote community more than worth it. Completely surrounded by beautiful parks and natural attractions, it just goes to show what amazing treasures can be found in a small Idaho town!

The town itself is extremely small with a population of just 153 people. In fact, the largest population this town was ever home to was just 260 residents back in 1920. But don’t let its small size deter you from visiting. There’s a lot more here than meets the eye.

One of the best things about Almo is its close proximity to Castle Rocks State Park. This inspiring park is filled not only with towering pine trees and endless scenic vistas, but otherworldly granite walls that resemble some sort of fortress in Southern Idaho’s high desert.

City of Rocks National Reserve is just a hop and a skip away, as well. Boasting about 700 developed rock climbing routes, the park is a haven for rock climbers. However, hiking, cycling, and horseback riding are also great ways to explore the landscape’s strange towering spires.

If you’re in need of some supplies during your time here, a stop at the Tracy General Store is a must. We’d even suggest dropping by even if you don’t need anything, since it’s considered the oldest store in all of Idaho! Built in 1894, this store is a longstanding fixture of the community you can’t help but love.

After spending the day exploring around Almo, be sure to treat yourself to a long soak at Durfee Hot Springs. People have been soaking in these spring waters since the early 1900s, and today the resort boasts a generous swimming pool and kiddie pool that’s perfect for relaxing and taking it all in.

And when you’re in need of a hot meal and warm bed, nothing beats Almo Inn & Outpost Steakhouse. This western-themed lodge and restaurant definitely suits the town’s rustic atmosphere, and it’s the perfect place to rest up for another adventurous day in Almo.
