Here in Maine we’re accustomed to unexpected changes in the weather. Sunny days end with rain, windy mornings give way to beautiful beach days. But, despite this experience, nothing really prepares us for snow in May. But, looks like that’s what we’re in store for this weekend! This springtime polar vortex will have us bundled up as though it’s January!
Maine is just one of the states set to experience the effects of a cold air surge arriving in the eastern United States over the weekend. Be prepared for record-setting cold temps across the region. Especially impacted will be those on the eastern seaboard, who will see highs and lows 20 degrees below what’s average for this time of year.

This unusual springtime polar vortex phenomenon is caused by a northeastern-bound storm that will hit Arctic air.

The National Weather Service radar shows that forecasted temps from Friday, May 8th through Saturday, May 9th will be quite frigid in a number of states. But, Maine should expect to see temps in the 20s and 30s!
