Did you know that staying cooped up in your home can cause irritability and more? The carbon dioxide levels rise in your home after you and the family have been cooped up, and your brain doesn’t get the ideal amount of oxygen, even though you’re none the wiser. If you’ve been cooped up and grumpy, we encourage you to get as much fresh air and sun as you can this year, whether that means opening your windows or venturing out to your favorite trail. These amazing trails at Elk City Lake are great for exploring, and stretching your legs for a while. Getting fresh air is always important!
Welcome to the beautiful Elk City Lake, and the surrounding wildlife that makes up these amazing hiking trails.

First and foremost, the Elk River Hiking Trail is always the most popular, but for good reason. The overlooks of the lake plus the rock formations just make this a gorgeous 14 miles in both directions. It’s a little tough on the feet at an incline, so it’s rated as moderate, but your canine hiking buddy and a good stick should help you with both of those issues.

Second on the list is Table Mound Trail, 5.6 miles of out-and-back with bluffs, large rocks, and a short jaunt through a mini ravine. It’s a little tough, so make sure you have enough energy to do the whole thing and back.

After that is Green Thumb Nature Trail, a tiny less than 1-mile loop with a cute wooden bridge and plenty of tree cover. It’s an easy and small hike, so you should add it to a longer one to make your trip complete. Or camp out to take on all of them!

Next up is Timber Ridge Trail, 2.4 miles of an easy loop that works either on foot or by bike, and is pretty kid-friendly as long as it hasn’t rained too recently.

Then we have Post Oak Self-Guided Nature Trail, one of the more popular routes through the area. It’s a 0.7-mile loop with lots of forests and an easy pathway for you, your family, and your dogs too. It can even be used for camping, giving you easy access to the beautiful area.

We love the Elk City Lake area, and love hiking these stunning trails. Just make sure that you’re well geared for the hiking you want to accomplish and you don’t leave any trash behind on your travels. To be safe and ensure the trails are open, don’t head here too soon after a heavy rain.
