There’s a lot to love about New Hampshire. From the people to the small businesses to the overall strength and resiliency we see all around us. But, one of the things we really love about this state are all of the incredibly beautiful places to visit. No matter the season, there’s always something to explore. And, while we may not be able to get to them all right now, the most astounding spots in the state will always be waiting for us. Here are just a few.
- The Mount Washington Auto Road
joleson / Flickr This might be the most scenic drive in all the state. It’s certainly one o the most notable! The 7.6-mile route begins at the base of Mount Washington and it’ll take about a half-hour to make your way to the summit. Be prepared for much different weather at the top! It’s often a warm summer day at the bottom with cold rain or snow at the top!
- Sugar Hill, Grafton County
rcweir / Flickr Beautiful in any season, the town of Sugar Hill is great for a day trip. It’s one of the state’s youngest and smallest towns and it’s also one of its most charming.
- Sabbaday Falls, Waterville Valley
allison_taylor / Flickr One of the most beautiful waterfalls in New England is right here in New Hampshire. But the most surprising thing is that you can access it using a trail that’s only about a third of a mile.
- Lake Winnipesaukee
rjshade / Flickr The largest lake in New Hampshire is 21 miles long and about 9 miles wide. And, more importantly, it’s got everything you might want in a Granite State waterway! Enjoy narrow channels that are great for fishing and large open expanses where the lake is more than 200 feet deep!
- Mount Cardigan Loop Trail, Cardigan Mountain State Park
Amy Poutre / alltrails.com This hike is not only beautiful, but it’s also slightly deceptive. The views would make you think it requires a massive hike, but in reality it’s just a 3 mile loop with about 1,100 feet of elevation gain.
- Flume Gorge, Franconia Notch State Park
nebulant / Flickr Flume Gorge might be one of the most well-known spots to explore in New Hampshire, but it’s for good reason. The many boardwalked trails and the sheer sight of the waterfalls is worth the trip every single time.
- Chocorua Lake, Tamworth
Flickr / lisadonoghue(away) It’s not the largest lake in the state, but this mile-long beauty is still magnificent. Look across the lake and you’ll see Mount Chocorua, one of the most photographed views in the state! And it’s a great spot if you’re looking for some peace and quite. No motorized boats are permitted.
- Lakes of the Clouds, Sargent’s Purchase

It sits no less than 5,000-feet above sea level on the side of Mount Washington, which means you’ll probably want to be an experienced hike to make the trip. But, even if you choose not to visit in-person, it’s so nice to know that it’s right here in New Hampshire!

Martingale Wharf / Facebook Perhaps an unexpected addition to this list, we love the views from the deck of this Portsmouth eatery. On a warm evening, the breeze is perfection and the food is even better!
They might not be the first places that comes to mind when you think of astounding places in New Hampshire, but we just love the local farms and gardens that call this state home. If you love them too, we recommend you visit Rosaly’s Garden, a multi-acre u-pick flower farm in New Hampshire.
