Each summer we plan our weekends to maximize our outdoor fun. Sometimes that means hikes in the mountains, other times it’s hitting a water park or simply relaxing at a public park. We love the beaches here in New Hampshire, but they’re often crowded making the trip stressful and hectic. If you feel the same way, consider heading to one of the state’s beautiful lakes. Many have pristine sandy beaches and they all offer lots of fun!
- Lake Wentworth, Wolfeboro
Management / TripAdvisor Head to Wentworth State Park to enjoy the beautiful lake, plus the amenities. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy between swims!
- Lake Winnipesaukee, Laconia
Sweetcheese / TripAdvisor This lake is one of the most popular in the state for good reason. First, it’s huge! Second, there are so many places to enjoy a good time depending on what you’re interested in. Weirs Beach is full of arcades, restaurants and bars while the more mellow Ellacoya State Park beach will let you relax.
- Kezar Lake, Sutton
mmwm / Flickr While the beach access here might not be as plentiful as some of the others, we love that there’s plenty of shade at the beach on Kezar Lake. And while you’re here, stick around and enjoy some of the trails at Wadleigh State Park.
- Forest Lake, Dalton
mrsmaxspix / Flickr If you’re looking for a lake beach with lots of space to spread out, look no further. This beach is 200 feet of sandy beach. Forest Lake State Park also offers lots of places to each lunch and many trails to explore.
- Lake Chocorua, Tamworth
Tiffany V / TripAdvisor This is a great destination if you want to be reminded of the natural beauty of the state. Views from the lake include the nearby mountains and there are tons of areas with beach access. Bring your kayak, canoe or SUP and enjoy a great day out on the water.
- Lake Sunapee, Sunapee
Sue H / TripAdvisor At 1,100-feet above sea level, did you know that this lake is the highest of its size in the country? This 10-mile beauty is great for a summer day trip. There’s a beautiful sandy beach and lots of ways to swim and boat.
- White Lake, Tamworth
mwvchamber / Flickr This lake, located within the hear of the White Mountains, is a great add-on if you’re camping in the area. The views are lovely, the water is refreshing and it feels a lot like being at a coastal beach.
- Echo Lake, Conway
Francis R / TripAdvisor This is another very popular option in New Hampshire. The water is oh-so clear and there’s even a nice trail going around the perimeter. That means you can work up a sweat while walking and then jump into the water to cool down. And you’ll love the views of Cathedral Ledge.
- Newfound Lake, Bristol
jantos / Flickr Newfound Lake is said to be the cleanest in the entire state, making this a great choice for swimming. And the many sandy beaches located all around it mean you can choose a different area each time you visit. Learn more here.
