We love venturing out into Kansas’s beautiful natural landscapes, but sometimes we overlook some of the simpler places in favor of things that sound less exciting. We’re here to talk about places in Kansas that are full of rocks, one of our most beautiful natural features. Who’s ready for the list of our best formations of Kansas rocks? They’re even more beautiful in person, and much larger.

  1. Monument Rocks - Gove county

Chris Heichel/Google We love our Monument Rocks, our Chalk Pyramids, and as long as they’re open for visitors, we’ll keep visiting. They’re too stunning to miss out on!

  1. Rock City - Minneapolis

Jenny Roat/Google These giant rocks are almost all spherical, and are concretions left behind by a larger rock that was worn away by time and weather. Now, we have these unique looking rocks that you are welcome to climb all over.

  1. Mushroom Rock State Park - Brookville

Mark Alexander/Google This giant mushroom rock is carved up from years of visitors, but we think it makes a much better photo opportunity. Who wouldn’t love a giant mushroom shaped rock?

  1. Horsethief Trail - Kanopolis State Park - Marquette

JD Jarvis/Google At this beautiful park, there’s a hiking trail that takes you to these red rock caves that are oh so smooth to the touch. They’re great for climbing up to take good photos, or just enjoying the view.

  1. Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park - Oakley

john xue/Google Kansas’s newest state park is stunning, and full of everything we love about Monument Rocks, but with plenty more of it. Hiking, anyone?

  1. Castle Rock - Quinter

Patrick Emerson/Flickr Castle Rock is a beautiful area, and sort of an appetizer sized portion of the rocks and badlands in the area. It’s a beautiful drive, and a great place for a day trip stop.

  1. Elk City State Park - Independence

Joseph Moravec/Google This gorgeous park is very rocky, and perfect for anyone who loves hiking long distances. It’s a tough hike for many, but worth every mile for sure. Rock tunnels, caves, and more await you!
