In 1933, the 21st amendment was ratified and the 18th amendment was repealed. Our nation could finally enjoy legal libations again, and the high costs of enforcing Prohibition could finally be left in the past. However, the celebration that settled over our nation in 1933 is something that shouldn’t be forgotten. At 1933 Lounge, a speakeasy in Indiana continues to thrive to this very day… at least in spirit. Plan to enjoy your own spirits in this vintage atmosphere, because these local bars will take you back in time.

1933 Lounge has two locations: one in Indianapolis and one in Fishers.

The Indianapolis location opened above St. Elmo Steak House in 2011, and it was so popular that a second location was opened in 2019.

The Fishers location is a great spot for a meal, as it features a full lunch and dinner menu.

And the location above St. Elmo’s serves up a tasty bar menu that’s perfect for light munching.

Throughout both locations, an emphasis on vintage elegance is echoed.

The patio at the Fishers location is downright darling…

1933 Lounge/Facebook If Indiana enjoys a mild winter, this patio may be enjoyed nearly all year round. However, it’s downright magical in the summer months when a gentle breeze is stirring up the aromas of delicious food.

…And the bar at each location is oh so welcoming.

Katherine Ferris/Google Images Can you imagine yourself enjoying an Elmo Cola here? (For the uninitiated, that’s a Coke with Maker’s Mark bourbon, vanilla, and cherries.) The cocktail list here is inventive and unique, offering both familiar favorites like Mules, and more unique flavors like their Liquid Love Affair.

You will truly feel like you’re celebrating the repeal of Prohibition in these speakeasy-style bars.
