Mainers know just how special it is to be from Vacationland, but to others we might seem a little strange. Here, we’ve rounded up a list of some of the things our friends have commented on over the years. Whether it’s reveling in winter weather or celebrating beans at the grange, these are things for which we should be proud!
- We shovel our roof.
Vermont Historical Society / Flickr Or risk sitting in a living room full of snow.
- We stand on ice over a frigid lake fishing through a hole.
LaneG / Flickr Okay, mostly we’re just drinking beers.
- We like our hot dogs to snap when we bite ’em!
T.Tseng / Flickr And being red is good too.
- We don’t hate this.
Gwyn Fisher / Flickr We’re pretty much just used to it.
- We drive to the middle of nowhere to see a sign with a bunch of exotic destinations.
Jimmy Emerson, DVM / Flickr Spoiler: They’re actually MAINE cities!
- We have an almost religious devotion to a soft drink.
stefernie / Flickr Well, WE don’t. Maybe some of you do?
- We don’t bother to get a car wash when winter is over.
Jenn Marsh / Flickr It’s just going to be weeks of mud, anyway.
- We stop at the side of the road to get our dinner side dish.
Dana Moos / Flickr Fry up those fiddleheads!
- We take our visitors to see a hole in some rocks that makes a loud noise.
Ken Lund / Flickr Actually, Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park IS pretty cool.
- We eat comforting corn chowder in the summertime.
Heather Joan / Flickr It’s delicious!
- We share all the town gossip over beans.
Melissa / Flickr And if you’re a kid, you fear them!
- We drive AWAY from moose.
Christine and John Fournier / Flickr Sure, they seem cute, but we all know that driving towards one might be a disaster.
Another strange thing we do? Drive down haunted roads for fun. Check out the most haunted drive you can take in Maine by clicking here.
