Folks around the country are preparing for a few solid weeks at home. While we’re not entirely sure what we’ll do to pass the time, we do know that humor is going to go a long way in helping us get through it. For that reason, we thought it might be fun to think of what Mainers across the state have in their homes. And we’re not just talking about toilet paper. Here’s a fun list of what we think we might find in homes throughout Vacationland.
- Food.
T.Tseng / Flickr We’ve been to Hannaford 6 times. Every time we get back someone tells us something they got that we didn’t. So we go back. At this point, there’s so much food here that we’re eating 4 meals a day.
- Outdoor gear. Just sitting there.
juliemelton / Flickr Parts of Maine have had some warm weather the last week or so, which means there’s a good chance we were already taking inventory of spring and summer equipment. Leaving it around is a good reminder that things will get better! It’s also a good way to have something to do later. “Kids, clean up the porch!”
- Flannel. Lots of flannel.
kellyhogaboom / Flickr Okay, sure this might be something that’s always in the closet. But we’ve gotta believe a few folks out there made a quick L.L. Bean or Reny’s run to stock up. If you’re at home with all the flannel you’ve always had, they might come in handy for some comfort.
- A reliable pair of boots.
rpscott123 / Flickr We might not be able to go far, but every Mainer knows the importance of getting some fresh air. And when it’s time, boots are going to be necessary. Especially since there’s a chance we’ll be deep into mud season by the time it’s all over.
- Maine brown bread.
pinprick / Flickr What could be less complicated? Baked right inside a B&M Baked Bean can, this stuff can weather any storm! Including one as nerve-wracking as a pandemic.
- Snacks. Lots of snacks.
auvet / Flickr Not only are we sure to have houses packed with snacks, but there’s a good chance they’re going to be local.
- Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy.
allenscoffeebrandy.com As Maine’s favorite alcoholic beverage up until just a few years ago when it was surpassed by Fireball, this is a Maine household must-have. Even just for some state pride!
- Moxie.
jeepersmedia / Flickr Maine’s favorite non-alcoholic beverage is great to have on-hand. You may not like it, but there’s a chance you might get bored of all that coffee-flavored brandy. And then…well, you’ll be glad you brought home Moxie.
- The Maine Atlas & Gazetteer.
libbyh / Flickr We know nobody’s going anywhere anytime soon, but we’re willing to bet that most of you have one of these lying around. It’s a good thing because after a few weeks inside it might make for some good reading material.
- An L.L. Bean catalog.
tamaki / Flickr Or five. There’s something about these things that makes them hard to throw away. And so, there’s a good chance we’ll finally get through the pile now!
You just have to love this state. If you’re in the mood to love her a little more we’ve got just the thing! It was just Maine’s birthday and here are 10 reasons to celebrate big!
