Let’s face it, Georgia is pretty huge. Compared to most other states, Georgia has them beat by size and often times by population. But what’s interesting about Georgia and the vastness that is our beautiful state, is that people seem to spread out into different towns and cities, some in the middle of nowhere. So we’ve decided to do a little digging, and find some of those spots in Georgia that are waaaayyy out in the boonies, but totally worth the drive. Check it out.

Flickr Will Folsom You can find the ever-illusive Guidestones here: Hartwell Hwy, Elberton, GA 30635. Many people travel however far it takes to get to these strange stones, in order to be intrigued and perplexed. They’re just one of those modern marvels you can’t really find anywhere else.
- Skidaway Island State Park
Flickr Britt Reints This stunning island state park is located near historic Savannah, but it does take quite some time to get there. The park borders the Georgia’s intracoastal waterway, which makes it pretty secluded from the rest of the state. But seclusion plus Spanish moss dripping from trees equals always awesome.
- Georgia Nuclear Aircraft Laboratory
Flickr Mike Schubert Did you know that in Dawsonville, Georgia there is an old, crumbling Nuclear Aircraft Facility? It’s true. In the middle of nowhere, you can find the remains of this nuclear testing facility which to this day has parts sealed off so that no one may enter again.

Flickr Flippant Ahh, Sleepy Hollow Fairy Garden. An awesome place to visit with your family and have them explore the creativity and whimsical magic throughout. - The New Manchester Manufacturing Company
Flickr Evangelio Gonzalez Hidden deep inside Georgia’s Sweetwater Creek State Park, you’ll find the old, historic ruins of a once popular cotton mill. Back in the day, this mill was thriving, and providing for the townspeople. However, now all that’s left in the middle of the woods are the remnants of what used to be.
- Georgia Mountain Parkway
Flickr sporadic Georgia Mountain Parkway is one of the most beautiful drives you can take in the state of Georgia. You’ll be in the boonies almost perpetually, however once you see the scenery and enjoy all the beauty of nature, you won’t even care which direction you’re driving.

Yonah Mountain is a mountain ridge located in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, and may take a little bit of a drive (and maybe a hike) to reach the stunning summits. You’ll be able to find the trailhead, and the mountain itself, between the towns of Cleveland and Helen.

Flickr thespanishpeach The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is an intricately mesmerizing Hindu temple in Lilburn, Georgia. It is open to the public to view and admire all the beauty and hard work that went into crafting this huge wondrous building.

The beautiful manor is smack dab in the middle of the Chattahoochee National Forest, now turning into ruin. Many people still visit this site for the both the history and the scare. All are welcome to try and find this modern murder house.
