The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our daily routines in ways that we couldn’t have imagined. When this is all over and we can get back to how things were, we’ll take on a new appreciation for the things we didn’t have during our social distancing period. Here are 10 things New Orleanians will never take for granted again.
- Crawfish Boils.
Peter Clark/Flickr Humans are social creatures, and not having the option to go hang out with your loved ones can start to take its toll after a few days. It’s prime crawfish season, and not having a boil every weekend to go to is crazy. Get ready for some epic crawfish boils, y’all.
- Sitting in a restaurant.
Management/Trip Advisor New Orleans is a city chock-full of empty restaurants right now, and that’s heartbreaking.
- Business hours.
Eden, Janine, and Jim/Flickr Now that businesses have shortened their daily hours, it seems like you always remember that one item you need 5 minutes after the place closed.
- Festivals.
Wikimedia/Infrogmation Social events! Festivals combine all the things New Orleans is known for: food, booze, and music. All in one spot.
- Bars.
Lars Plougmann/Flickr Tip your bartender an extra few dollars the next time you walk into your local watering hole.
- Toilet paper.
Mike Mozart/Flickr You don’t appreciate it until you’re running low and the city has a shortage of it.
- Your job.
Olaf/Flickr Everyone has those days where they really don’t want to get out of bed and go to work, but the last week has some people begging to get into the office, even if it’s just to get out of their house.
- Nature trails.
Jackie Ann/Flickr When you’re stuck inside all day, getting outside and exploring a nearby nature trail is that welcome dose of Vitamin D you need.
- Your health.
Kate Ter Harr/Flickr This quarantine is a reminder to be grateful that we have the luxury to go to these lengths to stay healthy.
- Teachers.
Filip Pticek/Flickr If you have kids, and you’ve been homeschooling them during this quarantine, then you are well aware that our teachers are the real heroes.
